FAQs
Baker Veterinary Services frequently asked questions and answers!
1. When do I get my puppy or kitten vaccinated?
We recommend starting puppy or kitten vaccines when they are between the ages of 6-9 weeks old. These vaccines help to protect them from infectious diseases like parvovirus and distemper.
2. Why should I get my dog or cat vaccinated?
We recommend core vaccines for all animals, regardless of whether they live inside or outside, and even if they aren’t around other animals. These diseases can cause serious illness or even death in unprotected animals. Some of these infections come from sick animals, like rabies, while others are present in the environment.
For dogs, these vaccines include rabies, which is required by law, and a combination vaccine that protects them from Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Leptospirosis.
For cats, the core vaccines are rabies, which is required by law, and a combination vaccine that protects them from Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia.
3. Why does my pet need dental x-rays during their cleaning?
Dental x-rays are an important part of our dental examinations. The x-rays we take during your pets cleaning allow us to see below the gums and can help us identify and address any other issues that may not be visible from the outside, such as infection, bone loss, fractures, or other painful conditions. We perform dental x-rays to ensure we’re providing the best dental care possible for your pet.
4. What is laser therapy and how can it help my pet?
Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment that can be done for many painful conditions and even for surgery site recovery. The energy from the laser increases blood flow to the treatment area and increases oxygen in the targeted tissues. The laser targets each cell of the pet and activates the mitochondria to promote growth and healing. This treatment can be used to help many of our pets with painful conditions like back pain, arthritis and injuries, as well as pets with chronic skin conditions, ear infections, and surgical incisions. We often recommend this treatment for the treatment of pain and ease of comfort of your pets’ recovery.
5. What is acupuncture and why should I consider it for my pet?
Medical acupuncture (which differs from traditional chinese acupuncture) is a treatment that uses fine needles inserted into specific points to help stimulate bloodflow, help relieve pain and stiffness, and stimulate healing. It can be used in the treatment of many conditions that affect our pets, including back pain, traumatic injuries, arthritis and mobility problems, nausea, and other internal diseases. We often recommend this treatment along with other appropriate medications to help your pet live a happy, healthy, pain free life.
